His story is coming to the series soon.
No Map
Corey Ashford grew up in Garden Hills, no trouble to speak of, just no map. His mother worked in the university dining halls. Nobody talked to him about college, and nobody talked to him about much else either.
At fourteen he borrowed a neighbor's mower and cut lawns for gas money. He detasseled corn two summers, stocked shelves after graduation, and drifted through his twenties doing decent work for other people's companies.
It started with a borrowed mower and one yard. Twelve families eat off this company now.
The Trailer
At twenty-nine he bought a used truck, a trailer, and two commercial mowers on a loan his uncle co-signed. The first year he mowed seven days a week and cleared less than his old paycheck.
Twenty-one years later the company runs four crews out of a yard on North Mattis Avenue. Twelve employees, half of them guys other companies wouldn't interview because of a record or a rough patch. He's not sentimental about it. He says they show up sharper than anybody. He just does the interview others won't.
