No College Fund
Nathaniel Boykin grew up in the North End, Central class of '95, a solid student in a family with no college fund and no illusions about one. His mother worked at a nursing home. He watched her come home tired his whole childhood.
The Army recruiter offered medic training, and Nathaniel took it for practical reasons. It was a real skill and a way out of town. He didn't know yet it was also the thing he was built for.
I've kept people alive with my hands overseas and in my hometown. Steady beats tough, every time.
The ER
Eight years as a medic, including deployments where he learned what he could do with pressure, gauze, and no time. He came home, used the GI Bill for nursing school, and hired on at Carle.
He's worked the emergency department for the better part of two decades. Gunshots, overdoses, car wrecks, kids with fevers at 3 a.m. Some nights he treats people he grew up with. He'll tell you the hardest part isn't the blood. It's staying kind on hour eleven. He mostly manages it.
